January - December 2007    
  Most low lying islands had to be cleared of mud and debris before agriculture could resume.
     
  All equipment, seeds and animals had to be ferried across from the mainland in rented barges.
     
  Besides buffalos for deep plowing groups of farmers were also equipped with hand held cultivators.
     
  In all 334 farmers on outlying island were benefitted form the agricultural start up program.

With assistance from the Internaltional Organization for Migration (IOM), AMURT and AMURTEL have been distributing basic household equipment and supplied to tsunami survivors in the resettlement camps.

Click for higher resolution   Bada Kindergarten is one of six schools that AMURT and AMURTEL rehabilitated. Spontaneous songs and poems were the highlight of the inauguration of the new school building.

Click for higher resolution   Ibu Yanti, 30, a beneficiary of our cake-making program lost her only child – a 5-year boy – in the tsunami.  In addition to making cakes for sale, she also supervises the children participating in AMURTEL’s traditional dance program at Barak Bada.
